IWSG: Surrounded by Awesome

It’s the first Wednesday of the month, which means it’s time for another Insecure Writer’s Support Group post! #IWSG is the brainchild of Writing Ninja Master Alex J. Cavanaugh. If you don’t follow him already, drop what you’re doing and FOLLOW! Oh, well, wait until you’re done here and then go follow him=)

One of the best things about being a writer is the community. I don’t know if I would have gotten to this point if not for all of you. You wonderful, talented, beautiful, awesome people. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe you.

I’ve written recently about issues with mushy brains and a busy life. I’ve finally gotten myself back to feeling in top form with the help of all of your support. Again, there aren’t enough adjectives!

That’s the thing though, isn’t it? There are amazing people out there, and if you only reach out, you will find that all or most of those people have been where you are. If you come across one of the bad ones, one of the few that will troll you, realize they don’t count. What they say doesn’t matter. It’s the community of support (like #IWSG) that has your best interests at heart. The other guys are either jealous, angry for a supposed personal affront, or just plain crazy – and not the good kind of crazy that comes from being a writer.

So, my dear writer friends, I leave you with this:

About Katie Doyle

Katie Doyle is an avid reader, writer of NA and Adult fiction, a mom to two tornadoes that resemble an eight and six year old, and pet to a tuxedo cat named Oz and a German Shepherd/Boxer rescue named Charlie. If she's not reading, writing, or getting Oz out of a tree, she's screaming at characters on TV and trying not to curse around her kids.

Well said! It’s groups and communities like this one that remind us that we’re not alone on this crazy adventure. My post today talks a bit about those negative, discouraging people that Mark Twain called “small people,” and how you have to just step right over them and carry on without a moment’s thought. The ones that help and support you are the only ones who matter. Writing is one of those things that sometimes make you feel like you’re in your own world and taking this thing on alone–but it’s empowering to find out that there’s a LOT of us out there, and we all face similar adversity in this thing.

    Good luck!

J.W. Alden, stopping by for the IWSG
