NaNoWriMo Update Day 13

Okay, so I know it’s not Thursday. It seems as if Thursdays are the days when crap gunks up the network connections and makes the internet wonky or just shuts it off completely. This week, there are three factors involved in Thirsty Thursday being delayed.

1) Our network provider was sold to another company and they’ve been “switching” their services over in phases. Thursday morning was the final phase and somehow, a bunch of their customers lost their internet access because their computer systems showed we weren’t supposed to have internet… FAIL – internet provider.

2) We have a Bluray and an XBOX 360 that have not been hooked up to internet access since we got them, which they are supposed to be. The modem was hooked up to the computer which was either in another room or all the way across the room and multiple wires were not a viable solution. So, we had a technician come out Thursday morning to switch the location of the modem and hook us up with a wireless router, but we didn’t have the network adapter we need to receive wireless signals on this computer yet… FAIL – me and Hubs.

3) I should have. I really, really should have written the post and set it up on a schedule on Wednesday night so it would be posted on time. I thought I would have enough time Thursday morning before the technician showed up, but the first FAIL prevented that. I should have had the foresight to realize Murphy really does exist… FAIL – me.

I have learned something from this though. Yes, a writing lesson (or life lesson even) from three fails that have nothing to do with actual butt-in-chair writing. What have I possibly learned from this experience? Just this:

Crazy/Amazing/Wonderful/Terrible/Horrifying/Brilliant things happen in threes. Celebrities die in threes. Movies come out in threes – the same story, told in three different ways through three different outlets (the block buster, the B-movie or porn version, and the made-for-TV version). Even that evil wench of a man, Murphy, makes appearances in threes (my van broke down, my washer broke down, and my shower head broke off… and yes, that all really did happen).

And great writing happens in threes.

There is always a beginning, a middle, and an end.

Anyways, Thirsty Thursday will return next week as scheduled.

As for my update, I must say I am quite ashamed of where I am compared to where I wanted to be at this point… 18,309 is where I’m at. 22,000 is where I wanted to be by Friday. And here it’s Sunday. Another FAIL going on… BUT I haven’t failed completely. There’s still many days left for me to catch up to where I need to be. For now, I need to get off of here. It is my son’s 3rd birthday so I’m going to go sing him a song and eat me some cake=)

  1. Not a fail at all. That's a great word count! Even if you don't do it all in November, the fun of it and know you got a good start is reward enough. Happy birthday to your little guy! I'd much rather spend the day with my son and eat cake any time. 🙂

  2. Glynis says:

Don't use the word fail! You will achieve something even if it is not what you set out to do!Keep up the good work.

  3. A Third Birthday is reason to eat cake, celebrate, enjoy family! Write NaNo tomorrow, and catch up! I had a "behind the word count" weekend too, and caught up yesterday with a mega writing day.Just keep writing!!!! Nice to meet you – found you through Sommer's NaNo Champions group
